The Door Scene - Step Four and Five
Click here for assignment. Step 4 - Now, with all that you have learned, you are going to rewrite a storyboard, making sure you include a variety of shots. Use the same premise as in The Door Scene - Step 1. Remember you are building suspense, and showing relief, etc. Complete Challenge A, review the footage and then make adjustments to your storyboards as necessary. Then, complete Challenge B and view the rough cut. Share the rough cut with some peers to get feedback.
Step 5 - This is where you are doing the final editing, adding transitions, music, sound effects, anything to make the story clearer and more dramatic. Review the questions on the worksheet. You will also have a reflection to complete at the end of this step in Google Classroom.
The Door Scene - Step Three
Click here for the assignment. You will be filming someone else's storyboard. Check the assignment sheet for the parameters/limitations. Then complete the Google Classroom reflection questions.
The Door Scene - Step Two
We will use the same script and concept as in The Door Scene - Step One. In this version, you must use at least 5 different shots, every detail must be included in your storyboard. "It must be so visually clear that a strager, unfamiliar with the scenario, could take your storyboard and shoot the film exactly as you visualized it." The Door Scene-Step Two
The Door Scene - Step One
We are starting to work in visual storytelling. You will be creating a scene, no more than 90 seconds, using a video camera to interpret and shoot a scripted scenario. Click here for a copy of the assignment from the American Film Institute Screen Education Lessons.
Suggested Schedule:
Day 1 (Tuesday) - Plan and Storyboard your idea - Look at the questions at the bottom of the assignment, how are you planning to meet those?
Day 2 (Wednesday) - Rehearsal - Every production requires some rehearsal to block scenes (where the camera will go), how the actors will act, what kind of shot you will use, and what extras you might need for filming (lighting, sound effects, props, etc.)
Day 3 (Thursday) - Filming - Your scene must be completely "in camera". That is, there will be no editing in iMovie. Shoot your scenes in the exact order you want them so they link together in the camera. You will download your film and upload it to google drive by the end of the period.
Day 4 (Friday) - Screening - We will be screening all the productions so that we can peer review and edit. Be prepared to explain what roles each person in the group had, your difficulties, what was easy and how you would change it if you did it again.

Create Your Own TV Segment
A T.V. segment is a part of the news broadcast that contains a story, information aside from the regular news.
For example, the weather segment, the sports segment, entertainment news, etc. Your assignment is to produce a template for a T.V. segment for KMMS. This should be a segment that can be played once a week or daily on the news broadcast. For example, if you have a movie review segment, then each week you would review a different movie. This is an individual assignment - no partners, although you may ask others to participate as long as they have time to complete their own work.
Click here for the handout with sample template for the segment
Choose a topic - Click here for a list of possible ideas - Then have your idea approved by Mrs. Eitner.
Here are some samples from another middle school youtube broadcast (original broadcast)
