T3 - Assignments

Picture

Roller Coaster Project

The first step in our Roller Coaster Project is to complete the webquest in Google Classroom.  It is designed to take you through the science of how roller coasters work, learn about potential and kinetic energy in order to prepare you to build a "roller coaster" of your own.  https://classroom.google.com

You will be building your "roller coaster" in teams of three (that I am selecting).  You will design it, build the foundation and then add the ramps, loops, curves, etc. while meeting the requirements in the The Great Paper Coaster Challenge.  The materials sheet and a copy of this challenge.pdf is also in google classroom.

Videos to help you construct your roller coaster

Construction Tips
Making a column
Making beams
Making the shelf
Making the Funnel
Making the Turns
Making the Loops

Blender Project

Now that you have had an introduction to Blender, it is time for you to do a little exploring and choose what you would like to learn in blender.  Your assignment is to choose two tutorials, either from the ones below or from the Blender resource page from http://www.mrseitner.net/blender.html.  Follow the tutorials from start to finish, share your final result with Mrs. Eitner and be prepared to explain what you learned in the two tutorials. Click here for the assignment sheet which also includes how the assignment will be graded.

Building your own Alice World

Now that you have the basics in Alice, you may choose one of the two assignments listed below.  When you have completed the assignment.  Export the video to your google drive and share it with me.  AND get the USB drive so you can download the world.   Due Date:  April 1, 2016

Assignment #1 - Create your own story in Alice.
  • It must have a beginning, middle and ending.
  • You must detail your world as much as possible.  For example, if you have a forest, add trees, rocks, a river, etc. so that it feels like a 3 D world.
  • Use the comment tool to help plan your programming and add understanding to the programming code.
  • Export the video of your story to Google Drive and Share it with me.
  • Ask for the USB drive and save your world on the drive.

Assignment #2 - Choose a character with a complete object tree and design it to walk as naturally as possible.
  • You may use one of the wooden models to help you place joints, figure angles and sequences in walking.
  • Look at someone walking and pay attention to the sequence of each part of the leg, the direction it moves, the angles, etc.
  • Use the comment tool to help plan your programming and add understanding to the programming code.
  • Export the video of your story to Google Drive and Share it with me.
  • Ask for the USB drive and save your world on the drive.

Alice Tutorials

Follow the tutorials below in order to learn the basics of Alice.  There are six tutorials, you will be turning in the code for your animation you will be creating.  I recommend opening Alice in one area with the tutorial open in another window.  Have your teacher sign off for each step of the tutorials.  Click here for the handout/assignment sheet.
