Editorial Assignment - Write an editorial for a middle school audience and videotape it.
DEADLINE - Friday, February 26
An editorial is a Persuasive/Argumentative Essay with a proposed solution. You will write an editorial on a topic, following the writing guidelines. Usually a TV station will write an editorial to show their support, suggest a solution or notify the public of an issue. It is an opinion paper, based in evidence and facts. Video Assignment - Creating an Commercial using an Advertising Strategy
DEADLINE - Friday, February 12
Now that you have had a chance to review different advertising strategies and see commercials using those strategies, you will create your own video that can be broadcast on KMMS. You may work in groups up to 4 per group - make sure each person has responsibilities in this assignment. Follow the directions on the assignment sheet, then when you are ready to export, your movie will need to be reviewed by two people not in your group. The review sheets are also below. There is a rubric for your video as well. While it is a group project, each person will be graded individually on the movie as a whole, as well as collaboration and teamwork and your individual contributions to the project. Media Literacy
Students on the broadcast crew are responsible to complete all classroom lessons. The broadcast itself takes 2-3 minutes and should take no longer than 10-15 minutes to rehearse and film.

Common Craft Video Assignment DUE: January 15, 2015
Part I - Reviewing the samples
Go to the Common Craft website and look at the videos, they are videos using very simple explanations for concepts. Look at several to see how they are put together. Pay attention to the script, the visuals, and how they introduce, have a middle and an ending. You may work with a partner, be prepared to explain how the work was divided.

Part 2 - Choosing a Topic
Some topic ideas:
You can write the script in columns so that you know what images go with what part of the narrative. Create the script first, then determine the images you will need.
Part 4 - Creating the Images
Paper, Markers, - Be Creative
Ask if you need supplies
Part 5 - Record the Voiceover
Using Garage Band, record the voiceover in sections (they will be easier to edit this way). Save your voiceover to iTunes, it can then be brought into iMovie when you are ready.
Part 6 - Rehearsal/Film
Rehearse your script with your pictures. Figure out how much you will film at one time and the timing with the script. When you are ready - FILM
Part 7 - Editing/Peer Review
Put all the pieces together in iMovie. Have a different group review your movie and offer suggestions.
