Storyboarding to Video

You have already looked at how one story can be told several different ways.  You are going to create an 8 scene story - one that you can shoot at school. You will determine the shot types for each scene, draw the storyboard, write the script, film, then edit the final product.  Click here for a storyboard template to help you create your scenes.  OR You may use this storyboard template that has room for shot types and script.

Suggested work flow:
_____Fri, Nov. 4 - Create Production Team (Team of 3)
_____Mon., Nov. 7 - Brainstorm and create storyboard
_____Tues., - Nov. 8 - Use storyboard to create shot list (click here for a sample shot list), make list of props, and equipment needed
​_____Wed. - Nov. 9 - Rehearse scenes and finalize shots
_____Thurs., - Nov. 10 - Shoot movie
_____Mon. Nov. 14, - Download all footage and choose scenes
_____Tues., Nov. 15 - Director begins placing footage in order - Team members can look for appropriate sound effects, additional or correctional audio, etc 
_____Wed., Nov. 16 - Begin Editing
_____Thurs. Nov. 17 - Finalize editing and audio, export Quick Time Movie, upload to Google Drive and share with Mrs. Eitner
_____Fri., Nov. 18 - Screening of all movies and grading.  (Because this is the end of the trimester, if a movie is not complete, you will be graded on what is done at that time.)

​DUE Thursday, November 17th - Screening will be on Friday.

The Dragon Illusion

The assignment has three parts:
  1. Create the dragon - Follow the directions for cutting, folding and taping together the dragon.
  2. Create a video that shows the illusion
  3. Write a paragraph on a google doc, through the google classroom site, how the illusion works.  How does the brain interpret the signals?

Editing a Video Short

You will receive some video footage.  You are to edit together exactly a 30 second video short, with at least 5 scenes, with the text as a quote and appropriate music for both the quote and the video footage.  You may use powerpoint to write out your quote - make sure you cite the author, use quotation marks and spell correctly!  
Due Date:  October 21, 2016

Produce a T.V. segment
A T.V. segment is a part of the news broadcast that contains a story, information aside from the regular news. 
For example, the weather segment, the sports segment, entertainment news, etc.   Your assignment is to produce a template for a T.V. segment for KMMS.  This should be a segment that can be played once a week or daily on the news broadcast. For example, if you have a movie review segment, then each week you would review a different movie.  This is an individual assignment - no partners, although you may ask others to participate as long as they have time to complete their own work.

Due Date:  October 12, 2016 DROP DEAD DATE - October 26,2016 
You may turn in each assignment as it is completed so that the grades can be entered.

  1. Create an opening for your segment.  It should have "theme" music and a visually appealing opening. Save this as a quick time movie, upload it to google drive and share with Mrs. Eitner. 
  2. Write a template for your segment.  It should include an opening, how your information will be set up and examples of what could be included and a closing. 
  3. Create two segments using your template and opening footage.  These should be broadcast ready - they could be on KMMS.  Plan for it. 
Composing Good Pictures
Go to the Media College link and read the descriptions of each of the types of shots.  Then complete the worksheet which has the abbreviations for each shot.

​Create a commercial for KMMS in iMovie - Due 9/9/16, DDD - September 23
Your video should be on a topic that relates to the Monroe Middle School audience.  Your movie should use high-resolution images, have titles and transitions, an audio track and have a beginning, middle and ending.  When you have completed the movie, it should be exported as a file, then uploaded to your Google Drive and shared with Mrs. Eitner.  Click here for link to iMovie Rubric - Level 1.
