Future City Competition
A lot of the assignments in this first trimester will emphasize work for the Future City Competition. Click here for more resources. The 25th Annual Future City Competition will be here, at Monroe Middle School on Saturday, January 14, 2017.
All in a Name
"The Name of your Future City will be important as it will identify you, your team will be known by it, all documents will have the name on it and everyone will see it at the competition. Choose the name of your city carefully and think of what the characteristics of your city will be represented in your name. For exampe:
San Jose - "San Jose was founded on November 29, 1777, as San José de Guadalupe, the first civilian town in the Spanish colony of Alta California" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Jose,_California
Chicago, IL -"the most accepted name origin is the Miami-Illinois word “shikaakwa,” which means “striped skunk” or “smelly onion”. Not exactly a glamorous name origin either way, right? " http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2013/07/how-chicago-got-its-name/
Some people choose a name that can be used throughout their city - For example, one Future City, called "Varuna", had V-pods and "Venergy", carrying the theme through their city. http://futurecity.org/sites/default/files/alexunderwoodfuturecity.org/no_cal_narrative.pdf
Below are some resources for prefixes and suffixes if you choose to build your name - your team must all agree on the name, because once we submit forms with it - it stays.
