About 5th Grade Tech

Technology in 5th grade technology emphasizes basic computer skills, keyboarding and digital literacy.  We explore digital citizenship, ethics, digital reputation and digital footprints to remind students of the public nature of working online.  We also look at the various issues involved with this such as copyright, fair use, safety and building a positive online presence.

Applications that are focused on are Microsoft Word and Powerpoint, Google Docs and Google Drive, various Keyboarding sites, technology games/tools that students can use that will encourage lifelong learning such as http://www.freerice.com, http://www.code.org, http://www.sumdog.com, etc. These sites allow all students to be successful, work at their own pace and see the computer as a tool for learning.  Incorporated are additional lessons designed to reinforce academic learning such as STEAM design challenges, beginning coding, Cornell Note-taking, reading informational text, depth of knowledge questioning, collaboration, etc.

Additional applications that may be used as time allows and depending on student interest, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Flash, Sketch-Up, Comic Life, TinkerCad (3D design) and more.  Additionally we may use additional technology equipment such as iPads, cameras, iPods, Forte keyboards, and more.
